Eaveguard® shingle underlayment

BAKOR Eaveguard® guards the interior of your home against leaks caused by ice and water build up and wind driven rain.

Shingle Warranties Do Not Cover The Following Problem Areas:

  1. Ice build-up can cause water to get under shingles and into your attic. Icicles indicate a possible problem.
  2. Areas with rains or ice storms. Shingles are only designed to shed water – they do not waterproof.
  3. Low slope roofs often leak due to standing water and snow buildup.

the solution

Protect your investment with BAKOR EAVEGUARD® peel and stick waterproofing. Eaveguard® is a rubberized asphalt peel and stick membrane that waterproofs and self seals around nails. It is the secondary layer for the vulnerable areas of your house. When installed according to directions EAVEGUARD® is backed by our manufacturer's warranty for the life of your shingles.

Use BAKOR EAVEGUARD® in the vulnerable areas of a roof (consult local building code regulations and shingle manufacturers instructions for more information.) BAKOR recommends two rows of EAVEGUARD® around the eave of all heated areas of the building as well as in valleys and around roof vents, chimneys and dormers.

LOW SLOPE APPLICATION:

When the slope is less than 4" in 12" cover the entire roof surface with BAKOR EAVEGUARD® or consider BAKOR Low Slope for less than 2" in 12" pitches.

Low Slope Application Tips

  • Relax rolls until they lay flat before installing (usually 20 minutes). This will result in a flat, smooth, wrinkle free roof. Cut rolls in half lengthwise so that the maximum length installed in 17' (5 m). This will result in a flat, smooth, wrinkle free roof. Ensure that roof is installed flat and wrinkle free - if you try to squeeze out a wrinkle it will come back - usually the next day.
  • You can tell that AquaprimeTM is dry enough to apply the membrane when the colour darkens and it cannot be easily rubbed off with your finger. AquaprimeTM can be applied using a low pressure pump up spray for large areas.
  • In warm weather store rolls in the shade whenever possible. This makes the installation much easier.

BAKOR Low Slope is a peel and stick "SBS rubberized" roofing that comes in a roll. Low Slope waterproofs your roof with self-sealing seams and Polybitume® 570-05 end lap sealant. No muss, no fuss, no flame and no insurance concerns.

how to repair a roof leak

Your roof shingles may not need to be replaced yet!

Roof leaks will often occur at vulnerable points long before the useful life of your roof is over. Roof leaks are usually found where the roof plane is interrupted by projections such as chimneys, skylights, wall flashing, dormers, valleys and other similar areas. Although there are many professional roofers in business today, many are not so good with these details and often leave you with unfinished business. We recommend hiring a qualified reputable contractor.

BAKOR has been making specialty plastic roof cements for over seventy years in Canada primarily for commercial markets. These same products are now available through retail outlets to help you do the job right.

How To Find a Roof Leak

Roof leaks can be difficult to find because water has a way of going in many directions at the same time including uphill (with a little help from wind or capillary action.) It can take time to notice a small leak, then one day it's a gusher. There are several methods of finding a roof leak.

Inspect the roof above the area inside where the leak was originally noticed. Check for visible holes in the roof surface, loose or missing shingles and damaged or missing flashing around projections. If you can't find the leak go into the attic and look for drops or stains on the underside of the roof surface. You may even see light through the roof deck. If you still can't find the leak you may have to revert to using a hose and hosing down suspicious areas until a leak is noticed.

How To Fix a Roof Leak

During inclement weather use BAKOR 810-47 All Weather Flashing and Sealing Compound.

BAKOR 810-47 was designed to work in weather conditions down to 20C and at temperatures higher than 40C. It's creamy texture is designed not to slide or slump so it stays where you put it and goes on easy the first time. BAKOR 810-47 even works in the rain. For best results spread ¼" thick on the leak area spread and press in with a trowel and feather the edges.

TIP: For larger repairs use BAKOR 990-06 Yellow Jacket as a reinforcing fabric between successive layers of 810-47.
